ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Japan Study Abroad 2024 Promo Video

Travel through Japan as you study film-making techniques.  Explore film as an artistic means of expression of contemporary Japanese culture.  Make films or documentaries and learn about Japanese culture, food, and cinema as you travel through Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima.

 

May 20th - June 8th, 20245

-Make films/docs as you travel through Japan.

-Explore Japanese culture, food and cinema.

-Create unparalleled work for your reel/resume.

-Beginner or advanced filmmakers. 

-No experience necessary!  Seriously - we will train you at any level.

Students will gain advanced production knowledge as they produce a group film and individual digital projects. Lectures and demonstrations will explore the issues of producing a film in a foreign country, location lighting, working with advanced digital cinema motion picture equipment.  Through film screenings, discussions and lectures students will explore a range of current Japanese films to gain knowledge on major cinematic movements which reflect social, political, economic, and cultural trends in Japan.​​

Students will complete a personal video project: narrative, documentary, personal or travelogue.  Working as a group, the students will film a short narrative film and a music video using Japanese actors/musicians.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Narrative Short Produced/Shot/Directed by Japan 2024 Students

Students stay at hotels thought out the program. (Breakfast included)

The program is led by Professor Ed Talavera, director of the film M.F.A Graduate program in the Department of Cinematic Arts.
